When I found this I was also overwhelmed of the idea how monetary reward can actually lower the performance of people in their jobs requiring the use of their brains. For example, it has been widely discussed in Finland that Nokia actually started to decline as the business and technology leader immediately as the most creative brains in Nokia (hundreds of them) received their multi-million stock options rewards in early 2000’s.
